Cass Community Social Services does quite a bit for the communities of Detroit, from providing tiny homes to combat homelessness, to teaching skills to help those in need find stable employment. From our perspective, their mission of fighting poverty, creating opportunity, and building community is not only admirable but critically important.
We had the privilege of having a team of 12 help Cass with the odd jobs that these responsibilities create during their latest Volunteer Day… namely, helping to maintain their landscaping.
We’re Happy to Have Helped Those Who Help Our Community
With so many critical services offered by CCSS, everything we can do to help them serves to support the greater good. That’s why we were happy to have some XFER team members there mowing and edging their lawns, weedwhacking, and pulling other weeds to keep their facility maintained and looking nice.

While it may seem like a minor task, our work helped keep CCSS’ attention wholly on the services they offer to those in need within the community.
We encourage you to learn more about these services and contribute however you can.
Some of Cass Community Social Services’ offerings include:
- Preparing and serving meals to those in poverty or experiencing homelessness.
- Providing assorted services to those experiencing homelessness via their Warming Center, their emergency Family Shelter, their Rotating Shelters, their Permanent Supportive Housing, and their Tiny Homes program… the last of which offers a path to home ownership.
- Offering the Cass Free Medical Clinic year-round, with the help of volunteer doctors and medical students, connecting patients with health screenings, no-cost medications as available, and arranging pro bono procedures.
- Generating sustainable employment opportunities for those with significant obstacles to otherwise obtaining employment.
We Encourage You to Support Cass in Any Way You Can!
We’ve always found it enriching and rewarding to do, and we look forward to our next opportunity! To join us and volunteer your time, reach out to Cass Community Social Services at casscommunity.org/volunteers or call 313-883-2277 ext. 203.
